An experienced pediatric ophthalmologist with expertise in adult eye-muscle disorders as well, Alan B. Richards, M.D., has practiced in Shreveport, Louisiana, since 1980. Associated with the Highland Clinic and the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, he offers diagnosis and care for a variety of children’s genetic eye disorders as well as complex strabismus (lazy eye). Alan B. Richards, M.D., also performs comprehensive eye examinations and conducts eye surgery on patients of all ages.

Dr. Richards earned his pre-med bachelor’s degree in history and psychology at Rice University and Southern Methodist University. He subsequently completed his medical studies in Dallas at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Involved in his community, Dr. Richards serves as chairman of Shreveport Sees Russia, which strives to protect the vision of infants throughout Eastern Europe and Russia. Alan B. Richards, M.D., has made multiple visits to Moscow to provide training in the diagnosis and treatment of retinopathy of prematurity to pediatric ophthalmologists there. He also chairs the state of Louisiana’s Vision Advisory Board.
