Former Texas Shell Energy Executive David Lawrence
An accomplished oil and energy professional and executive with a number of years of experience from his positions at Royal Dutch Shell, David Lawrence presently serves as a director at Stone Energy Corporation. Prior to his position at Stone, he spent 30 years in various positions of increasing responsibility at Shell.
Prior to receiving his doctorate in geology and geophysics from Yale University, David Lawrence worked for the United States Geological Survey in Wyoming, and in the uranium industry in Colorado and Utah. Mr. Lawrence's initial assignments in Shell were as a research geologist and manager for the Shell Development Company in Houston, Texas. Thereafter, he was promoted to the New Orleans office as chief geologist and new play manager and eventually vice president of Shell Offshore Properties and Capital, and Vice President Exploration and Development. Over the next several years, he held executive positions with global responsibilities at Shell headquarters in London and The Hague.
Lawrence contributes his efforts towards a number of professional organizations and institutions including the Yale Climate and Energy Institute Advisory Board and the National Ocean Industry Association. He is a trustee associate of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists Foundation and a past member of the American Petroleum Institute Upstream Committee. He has published over 20 articles, papers, and abstracts and earned the AAPG Wallace Pratt Award for the best paper in the AAPG Bulletin.
